Patient Instructions for MRI

Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your appointment time to China Basin Imaging Facility. Expect appointments to last from 60-90 minutes, and please take note of the following points on the morning of your scan:

  1. Avoid eating or drinking anything other than water for 4 hours prior to your appointment. This helps to limit fetal motion and can help the scan run more smoothly while providing better images.
  2. Please wear 100% cotton sweatpants/leggings, 100% cotton shirt, and 100% cotton underwear to the appointment. Please make sure that there is no metal in your clothes (such as buttons/snaps/zippers/metal ring around sweatpants drawstring). If possible, please do not wear a bra or any jewelry to the appointment. Otherwise, please be sure to remove your bra and any jewelry or personal items that may contain metal prior to the MRI.
  3. If you have experienced claustrophobia or have any implanted metal inside your body, please let us know as soon as possible, as these may affect our ability to conduct the scan in a safe and comfortable manner.
  4. If possible, please print out the MRI safety form, and fill it out, and bring it with you to the appointment. If someone will be sitting with you during the scan, he or she will need to fill out one of these forms as well.
  5. The MRI technologist has copies of the consent form and medical records release forms if you have not yet completed these forms.
