Follow-up Visits

Unfortunately, we cannot currently offer follow-up assessments to all babies enrolled in the fetal MRI study due to lack of sufficient funding.

If your fetus has a condition known as Isolated Mild Ventriculomegaly, your child will be eligible for free non-invasive neurological and developmental exams at 1 year and 2.5 years of age.

If your fetus has a completely normal ultrasound and you are enrolling as a healthy volunteer for the fetal MRI, we may also ask that you bring in your child at 1 year of age for free non-invasive neurological and developmental exams.

These exams will begin with a developmental assessment done by a child psychologist. This involves showing your baby toys and other items and doing small tasks to see if your baby is making the age-appropriate progress. Babies and toddlers have fun playing with blocks and puzzles during this part of the visit.

After the developmental assessment, a child neurologist specialist will examine your baby’s the general neurological status, e.g. assess your child’s muscle power, muscle tone, reflexes, standing, walking, finger movements, etc.

The follow-up visits will take approximately1-1.5 hours.
