Dear Families,

We would like to thank you all for agreeing or considering to participate in the BAMRI study.

This study explores hypoxic-ischemic brain injury, a type of injury that is caused by the lack of oxygen and/or blood supply before or during birth, in term newborn babies.

We are finding ways to assess how newborns' brains get injured and what the best diagnostic tools are to see that injury early on. Our aim is to see brain injury early enough so we can develop treatments to reduce the damage. We also hope to identify those children whose long-term development will be affected, and who could benefit from early therapy.

In order to be able to do this, we need your continued support! Please work with us to get your child to the follow-up exams at 3 months, 1 year, 2.5, 4 and 8 years of age. The information gained at these visits is very important to babies who may have similar problems in the future.

With this web page, we are sharing with you some of what we have learned since 1993, when the study was started. Please feel free to use this web page and email address to ask questions or give us new information, and to share your thoughts with other families in the study on the new BAMRI World online forum.
